Kalí

Gods - Indiana Mythology

Kali or Cali is one of the divinities of Hinduism. It is considered a manifestation of the goddess Durga, the wife of Shiva. It is depicted stained with blood, with snakes and a necklace of skulls.

It is the true representation of nature and is also considered, by many people, the essence of everything and the source of the existence of being. Goddess of the death of the ego, she is the "wife" of the god Shiva in some cultures. Already according to the Vedas, Shiva is transformed into Kali, that would be one of its sides, to bring the end of the badness. According to Tantrism, it is the divine "mother" or father of the universe, destroyer of all evil. It is represented (o) like a lush woman, in a part of India; in another, as a lush, dark-skinned woman (or blue), who bears a necklace of skulls around her neck and a skirt of severed arms - thus expressing the implacability of death from all evil and demons.

Legend has it that in a fight between Durga and the demon Raktabija, he joined Durga with a diabolical spell: every drop of his blood turned into a demon by reaching the ground forever. Durga and Shiva as they attempted to kill the various demons, which arose from every drop of blood, cut off the head, and from there, more and more demons were born. Already in despair, Kali emerges, cutting heads and strategically licking blood to prevent him from touching the ground (hence his traditional depiction of the skull-head necklace, dagger, and tongue). So he decimated the demons of Raktabija.

The figure of the goddess has four arms, blue skin, her eyes fiercely wide, her hair disheveled, her tongue hanging, her lips red with henna and betel. On his neck he bears a necklace of human heads (symbol of reincarnation), and, on the flanks, a band of severed hands. She is always represented standing on the fallen body of the husband Shiva.
