About the Simerian barbarian Conan, there were prophecies. And his ascent seems to begin when he finds a sword.
As a young man he had been trained by the greatest warriors of his age to fight as a slave in deadly arenas.
When he fled through the wilderness, still with a fetter attached to his ankle, while being chased by a pack of wolves, to save himself, he climbed a few rocks. And as he did so, he fell into a sarcophagus of an ancient King. There were valuables there and the remains of a great king (Atlantean) seated on a throne, so he was buried. From all that Conan could see, he saw that there was a sword, and as he drew the sword from the king's hand, the king bowed his skull, almost bowing.
He had no idea, but apparently that was King Kull, a skilful Atlantean king.
The sword was crusty and weathered. And as he struck the rock, all the curling of the sword broke, and its brilliance shone and perceived the nobility of its steel ...
His Atlantean steel had been wrought so perfectly that in a single blow he broke the shackle of his ankle.
Thus the Atlantean sword had been delivered into his hands and thus his name was feared.
